A night on the town -- Hong Kong, that is

We were off on another tour this evening.  We were to meet our tour at pier #9 at 6:00.  We took a taxi and made sure we were there early.  We weren't quite sure where, who, or how this tour was going to operate, and the pier itself, being a gorgeous Sunday evening, was packed.  Ultimately, a tour guide found us because of our little stickies placed on our shirts.  He told us we would be leaving on the first part of our tour via a boat which would pull up to the pier around 5:50.

All was good, except both Harold and I were on immodium -- and you know what that means!  We made the mistake of having some water at the hotel restaurant, thinking it was bottled water.  It wasn't. . . .   Sigh.  Bad afernoon, but the immodium helped. While wandering around the pier, Julie did have to walk into the Hong Kong Fish Museum (on pier 8) like she owned the place and headed straight for the bathroom without paying.  Fortunately, no one stopped her, and all was good the rest of the night.  Whew.

So the boat -- a Chinese style junk boat -- came to pick us up and happily/unhappily, because of our tour, we had free and unlimited alcohol for the 1.5 hours of the tour.  Unfortunately, though, since both of us were queasy, we only had a can of Sprite.  Sigh.

The boat tour was grand, and it was delightful seeing all of the neon lights on Victoria Harbor between the island of Hong Kong and the penninsula of Kowloon.  The number of tall buildings is, indeed, impressive.  We wondered what would happen if there were an earthquake, but someone assured us that there was no chance of earthquakes in this area.  I still wonder. . . . The neon lights on the building rival those on Times Square in Manhattan, but the size and number of buildings far exceeds those in our greatest US city.

After our harbour cruise, we headed to an immense and quite flashy floating restaurant on Victoria Harbour called the Jumbo Floating Restaurant.  Jumbo it was, and floating it was also.  We had what was billed as an 8-course meal, but in reality, 6 of the courses all came at the same time:  rice and a bunch of vegie and meat dishes.  Our tour group was small (6 of us), and the other four people were from Australia.  We had a nice time at the meal, and the food was -- so-so.

Post dinner, we headed to Victoria's Peak where we looked over the city and its lights from on high.  It was a splended view after a very nice evening.

It was good to get to bed too. :-).
